Preschool Program

Targeting children aged 3-5 years, the program aims to address the severe developmental challenges faced by children in impoverished communities. With a focus on Gaza Province, where chronic malnutrition and food insecurity are prevalent, the preschool program provides a critical foundation for children's future success in education and beyond.

At the heart of the MSLI preschool program is the provision of nutritious meals. Recognizing that good nutrition is essential for cognitive and physical development, MSLI ensures that every child receives a healthy breakfast and lunch each day. These meals are designed to meet the children's nutritional needs and are prepared using locally sourced ingredients, such as bean stew with vegetables, peanut vegetable curry with rice, and maize porridge mixed with peanut butter. By leveraging existing school kitchen infrastructure, MSLI is able to deliver these meals cost-effectively and efficiently, ensuring that children start their educational journey on the right foot.

MSLI’s approach to early childhood education is comprehensive and community-focused. The program recruits and trains local women as preschool teachers, providing them with the skills needed to deliver quality education to young children. The curriculum, co-developed with UNICEF and the Ministry of Health, includes activities that promote linguistic, cognitive, and social development. Children engage in counting, alphabet singing, storytelling, and interactive games, all aimed at preparing them for a smooth transition to primary school. Regular monitoring and evaluation are conducted to assess the children’s progress and ensure the program’s effectiveness. The program also tracks long-term outcomes, monitoring the children’s performance in primary school to evaluate the sustained benefits of early childhood education and nutrition.
